So, The Brady Bunch was only a fictional and glamourized version of what blended families are like. But, if there’s something we can take away from this bellbottom wearing, long hippie hair styled 70s sitcom, it’s that blended families exist and have to deal with the day-to-day challenges that arise from two families trying to grow as one.

“Blending Family Values,” an article written by Dr. Linda Olson, suggests six ways of making the transition from 2-to-1 easier. Read them. Print them. Post them on your fridge.

Tip: If there’s something you want to say to your ex-spouse, ex-mother-in-law, or ex-father-in-law but don’t want to explain yourself to the police after you do so, write them an uncensored letter that you can tear up and throw away when you’re done.

Set a daily limit in which you allow yourself to think about and deal with your divorce concerns. Give yourself permission to wallow for one or two hours a day and then let it go. Fill the rest of your day with distractions that promote a healthy life instead of feeding the negative emotions.
